The year was 1987 when we opened the doors to our then 4.5 hectare vineyard in Carnuntum - the famous wine-growing region east of Vienna, which was already appreciated by the ancient Romans for its favorable climate. Over the years, the vines grew in line with our ambitions, so that today we send 250,000 bottles of wine around the world every year. The numerous awards that our wines have received prove that the quality has kept pace with this quantity. Our premium wines, such as the Blaufränkisch Bernreiser, the St. Laurent von Altenberg and our well-known flagship, the Zweigelt Dornenvogel, regularly impress discerning palates. In the words of Falstaff magazine: "Walter Glatzer is one of the quality drivers of the Carnuntum winegrowing region. His red wines, above all the Zweigelt 'Dornenvogel‛, are among the products with the best price-performance ratio in Austria. To keep this engine running smoothly, he needs the support of his whole family, including his wife Doris, daughter Hanna and son Mathias. After all, different character traits are what make a good wine.

Carnuntum is a renowned wine-growing region in Austria that stretches along the Danube to the east of Vienna. It is one of the four most important wine-growing regions in the country and is known for its first-class wines. The region mainly comprises the eastern parts of the federal states of Lower Austria and Burgenland.

The Carnuntum wine-growing region has a long tradition dating back to Roman times. Vines were already being cultivated here over 2,000 years ago. The Romans recognized the region's favourable climate and fertile soils and used them for winegrowing. Today, numerous archaeological finds still bear witness to this historic past.

The climate in Carnuntum is characterized by continental influences. Summers are hot and dry, while winters can be cold. However, the region benefits from its proximity to the Danube, which ensures an excellent water supply. The soils in Carnuntum are varied and range from loamy to sandy soils. This diversity enables the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties.

Both white and red wines are produced in Carnuntum. The most popular grape varieties include Grüner VeltlinerChardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch. The wines from this region are characterized by their excellent quality, character and elegance. The winegrowers of Carnuntum attach great importance to manual labor, careful vineyard work and traditional production methods.
