The Fairview Winemaker's Selection Extrano has a beautiful dark red hue in the glass and develops wonderful aromas of red berries and plums on the nose. Nuances of herbs, tea and cocoa add the finishing touches. Plum notes are particularly noticeable on the palate and the good tannin structure gives this full-bodied red wine a great mouthfeel. The cuvée of Tempranillo (86%), Carignan (7%), Grenache Noir (6%) and Cinsault (1%) matured for 24 months in French and American oak and is a pleasure on its own. Matured cheese or grilled meat are also a good choice with the Fairview Winemaker's Selection Extrano. Incidentally, the name means something like "stranger", as the grape varieties are strangers (extrano) in the vineyards of the Cape, as they are originally from Spain.
