Caperitif

THE CAPERITIF is an aperitif in the style of a vermouth - a flavored liqueur wine. The addition of numerous plants, fruits, alcohol, sugar and bitter substances to a wine changes the nature of the wine. It becomes vermouth. Wormwood or in German "Wermut" ("wer" means man; "mut" means courage, spirit or English 'wormwood' ).

A high-quality white wine base is the starting point - this is produced on Kalmoesfontein. A neutral, grape-derived alcohol is added to this wine to raise the alcohol content to 16.5% by volume. Once this alcohol content is reached, we add 46 different ingredients according to our own recipe or formula. These ingredients include a variety of fruits, garden herbs, spices, a bouquet of different flowers, some roots and barks for bitterness and the unmistakable and unique fynbos. Fynbos is the collective name for the 8500 different plant species that grow here in the Cape Floral region. Many of these plants have been harvested and used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. They are intensely aromatic and give the CAPERITIF a unique flavor. Part of each batch matures in old oak barrels and is blended back into the "fresh" CAPERITIF.
CAPERITIF is blended to give the final product even more complexity. CAPERITIF can be enjoyed like most aperitifs or vermouths - simply with ice.
