2022 - The year of the great drought has once again shown us the resilience and adaptability of the vine! The winter was mild and dry, and for the first time we see the mountains above the vineyards completely free of snow. Both spring and summer were warm, consistently above the seasonal average, but without the excessive heat peaks that have been typical of recent years. In summer, the vines took a vegetation break due to the lack of water, so that we were even able to harvest a little later than the average of recent years. later than the average of recent years. Some minimal rainfall in September supported the final ripening. The wines are lighter, fresher and more aromatic than expected due to the long vegetation stop in summer, and the alcohol content is also unexpectedly reminiscent of that of much colder vintages. Vineyards: The grapes for this wine come from the Ormeggio, Castagnola and Belvedere vineyards in Lessona in the Orolungo region. They also come from the 45-90 year old Madonna degli Angeli vineyard in Brusnengo in the Forte region (part of the D.O.C. Bramaterra). Only for this wine are some of the grapes grown by historic suppliers. Soil composition: In the Lessona vineyards, the soils consist of marine sands from the Pliocene on igneous rock mixed with more recent glacial sediments. The soils are acidic (pH 4.5-5.5) and rich in minerals and trace elements such as iron, manganese, aluminum and zinc. The soils in the Madonna degli Angeli vineyard consist of pebbles on a base of igneous rock close to the surface. The pH value here is 5-6. The grapes are sorted on the conveyor belt, destemmed and gently pressed and then transferred to the fermentation tank by gravity. Skin maceration lasts 6 hours. The wine is then left to rest for 5 months.
