One of the most exciting challenges for the company's managers. The project to create a wine of the highest quality and standing from the most famous and widespread white grape variety in the world began in the mid-1980s. The San Francesco vineyard was planted in 1985 by Lucio Tasca in the lower part of the slope on a soil that was more fertile than the average Regaleali soils due to a deeper active layer and a particular freshness due to less rainwater drainage. Some of the clonal material comes from Burgundy. The area under cultivation covers around 5 hectares with a planting pattern of 2.60 meters by 1.20 meters (3,200 plants per hectare) at an altitude of 520 to 532 meters. The original substrate consists of loamy-sandy sediments with a loamy-clayey, slightly chalky texture and a slightly alkaline reaction (pH 8.1). It is a remarkably deep, well-structured soil, but the roots do not reach more than 70 centimeters deep. The soil has a normal organic matter content and is rich in mineral salts, particularly magnesium and potassium, with a good phosphorus content. The vines are trellised, with a double Guyot training system. The grapes are fermented in 350-liter French oak barriques with daily batonnage for the first 10-15 days, then weekly for the remaining 8 months of maturation. Chardonnay is a very early grape variety, usually ripening in Regaleali between the end of August and the beginning of September, with only slight variations from vintage to vintage.

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, is an up-and-coming and at the same time traditional wine region of Italy. The sunny, dry climate and the volcanic soils – especially around Mount Etna – offer ideal conditions for wines with a strong character. Sicily is particularly known for autochthonous grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola, Grillo, Catarratto and Frappato.

The combination of modern techniques and thousands of years of winemaking history makes Sicilian wines sought after worldwide. Diverse landscapes, sustainable viticulture and a strong terroir profile characterize the region.
