2021 Falstaff Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

This wine comes from a vineyard planted in 1999 in a cold, foggy area on the Sonoma Coast. It is Kutch's most marginal site, and this wine is fermented with 50% whole clusters and aged in old barrels. It's very fresh and supple with bright black cherry and berry fruit, with some floral overtones, but also a bit austere on the palate, which shows good acidity and a spicy, slightly cedary edge to the pure fruit. A nice precision: a somewhat nervous, taut wine that is holding back on enjoyment at the moment, but which will surely come in the future. Straightforward and quite juicy on the finish.
