The La Monaca vineyard, which covers two hectares and was planted in 2011 at an altitude of 320 m above sea level, is characterized by a sandier soil (37.4% sand and 12.5% clay), is well aerated and well drained, making it slightly drier and producing more vigorous vines. The north-east exposure ensures good brightness, but reduces the influence of hot summer temperatures. As a result, the vines suffer less in hot and dry years and can ripen consistently. The presence of active limestone promotes the development of aromas and the high potassium content favors the accumulation of sugars, aromas and anthocyanins. The low vigor, low productivity and characteristics of the soil contribute to a balanced and complete ripening of the grapes, which are better suited to structured and long-maturing red wines.
