The first Bin 2 was launched in 1960, but was then shelved by Penfolds in the 1970s to make room for the more popular pure Shiraz and white wines. Originally, Bin 2 was intended as a counterpoint to the great Burgundies from France Mataro, known as Mouvedre in France, was very rare in Australia. The grape variety came to Down Under in the 1830s and found its new home in the Barossa Valley. For us, this wine from Penfolds is an absolute insider tip, its other "Bin" colleagues are now traded at the highest prices, while Bin 2 still flies somewhat under the radar. Let's see how long it stays that way!
