Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature (26€) with maceration on the skins for 25-28 days, ageing in 50 hl barrels and fine-grained oak barriques for about 12 months and 3 years in the bottle. The color is deep ruby red with light violet reflections. The nose is elegant and complex, reminiscent of sour cherry, delicate violet notes and fine woody hints (cocoa, coffee), spicy finish with pepper and cloves. On the palate, the Vigna Montcchio is profound, harmonious and well-balanced, with a complex and slightly balsamic fruit, an enveloping tannic texture, with notes of licorice and jam and a long finish that announces a delicate minerality and a spicy aftertaste. Focus: a special selection of Rubesco from the first harvest of 1964 from Vigna Monticchio is Lungarotti's flagship wine in the world. One of the best Italian reds, this wine is a profound expression of Umbria, its hills and its people, with a unique balance between power and elegance. It is only produced in the best vintages. Curiosity: Rubesco is a Lungarotti brand derived from the Latin rubescere, (to blush with joy). Label: bas-relief depicting the grape harvest, detail from the 13th century Fontana Maggiore in Perugia, the most beautiful fountain in the square.
