2015 Sena DMG

Compared to the 2014 vintage of this wine, the 2015 Seña yielded 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Carmenere, 12% Malbec, 7% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, with 12% of the wine now aged in new Stockinger oak barrels and the remainder in barrique for around 22 months. 2015 may have been a slightly warmer year, but the resulting wine is lower in alcohol and higher in acidity, making for a more vibrant mouthfeel and a more focused expression of the site's character. This vintage has half a degree less alcohol, and the acidity is slightly sharper; and the amount of wine in the foudre seems to help the oak show itself better integrated. It's dry, nicely structured, and the replacement of Merlot with Malbec also seems to have helped refine the tannins, which are super-elegant.
