2021 Papegaai Red Blend

If you know Adi, you may have heard of his dream to make just one wine... When the young Badenhorst family settled in the Swartland, Adi had planned to make just two wines (the Family White and Red Blends) - but then came the bills and budgets and (thankie tog!) that led to the birth of the easy-drinking (and buying, and selling!) Secateurs range. Then the estate's old vineyards were nurtured into something special that deserved to be vinified separately from the blends & so the Single Vineyard Range was born. Now, as Adi approaches his own half century, this new Papegaai is a nod to the old dream of making just one wine - one that screams Kalmoesfontein and Adi Badenhorst.

The winemaker and the process: All the grapes, red and white, large and small, were harvested together (over a few days) and left to ferment together on their skins. It's a sort of arranged marriage that works because the parents were considerate (and have been thinking about it for over a decade). Very little sulphur was added and the wine was bottled unfiltered.
