2015 Bellefont-Belcier

The 2015 Château Bellefont Belcier blew me away. This stunning red wine is a blend of 72% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, 80% of which was aged in new barrels. The vineyard extends over 13.5 hectares in a prime location, right next to Larcis-Ducasse on the plateau and on the southern slope of the Côte Pavie. Lots of black currants, black cherries, truffles, licorice and a hint of chocolate come from this opulent, full-bodied, inky red wine that has loads of sweet tannin, a rich, deep mid-palate and a great, great finish.
