2005 Penfolds Grange Bin 95

The 2005 Grange contains just a 4.1% blob of Cabernet Sauvignon and is over 85% Barossa fruit, with the balance from McLaren Vale and Coonawarra. It matured for 18 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads. The nose starts a little animal with some smoked game, mince and bacon notes emerging over freshly crushed, sun-warmed blackberries, blackcurrant liqueur, earth, black truffles, aniseed and allspice. Rich and full with very firm, very fine tannins and very crisp acidity, there is a long finish layered with coffee, minced meat and toast. Recommended drinking until 2030.
